Music Genre Research (Shania Twain- That Don't Impress Me Much)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mqFLXayD6e8

Mise-en-scene
Again, this music video is for a country song from a famous artist. However, like the previous video, the video does not correlate with the genre of the song. Twain models a stylish and extravagant exposing leopard-print crop top with a long hooded cape and trousers to match with bright make up. This costume subverts the 'country' stereotype and is instead seen as modern for the time, stylish and something that a pop singer would wear, so it merges the country and pop genre together. However, the setting of the music video is in a hot dessert location which could be linked with the 'wild west' ideology of country. This ideology is also supported by the other characters and props that are introduced throughout the music video. Men turn up to try and get the artist's attention. One of the characters turns up in a big American truck which fits in with the patriarchy aspect of country.

Camera Shots/ Angle/ Movement/ Composition
Tracking shots are used to follow the artist across the setting. There are also close-up and medium shots when the artist is singing and wide shots of the artist playing when the artist is playing the 'player' character. Depth of field is used to show that the artist is more important then the object in the background .e.g the man.

Editing
The are cutaways between the narrative and the artist singing, and shot-reverse shots between the characters as the men try and impress the artist. The shots are quite quick and short to go with the beat of the music.

Sound
The music is played over the top of the music video so is non-diagetic.

There is a basic narrative of the music video which links directly with the lyrics with the artist playing 'hard to get'. Like the other country song I researched, it is upbeat and positive.
