Market Research- Questionnaire Results 'What is your all-time favourite music video?'

I have decided to look at a few of the music videos which people said were their all-time favourites. I have done this to see why these music videos are so successful and can hopefully inspire my product.

Peter Gabriel- Sledgehammer

This music video was produced in 1986 and is a music video that uses stop motion to make a fun and amusing video that is entertaining to watch and is easy to watch again and again without getting boring as the visuals link with the lyrics. The music video also uses found footage at the start of the music video to introduce the song. This is a successful music video because it is entertaining, humorous and cleverly put-together.

Kodaline- High Hopes

This music video follows the narrative of a love story. A man is in his car and is obviously alone and depressed because he tries to gas his car to commit suicide. He is save by a runaway bride who seems to be an old love or friend. Their love story begins as she goes homes with him and they fall for each other. In one of the scenes they go out and the groom of the runaway bride shoots them both but they still cling on to each other. The music video ends when they are reunited in the hospital. I think that this music video is successful because it tells a more realistic love story of an 'older' couple then what is usually shown in modern music videos which are stereotypically based on youths. The band is also not featured in the music video which puts the main focus on the narrative which makes the music video more emotional and keeps the audience intrigued.

Taylor Swift- You Belong With Me

This music video is based on a narrative that links directly to the lyrics. The artist is featured in their own music video which defiantly makes it more relatable to the audience. She is a young, teenage girl who is in love with a boy who already has another girlfriend. The artist sings about how the boy should be with her and not the other girl. It is a humorous, fun music video and is a modern 'twist' on the country music genre. The artist is seen as a protagonist because we empathize with her and understand her feelings.
