Ancillary Task- Digipack Research // Katy Perry - Teenage Dream

I believe that Katy Perry is another artist that would appeal to a young audience. Both Katy Perry and Taylor Swift are now very popular pop artists and have a large audience who they are role models for. Therefore I have decided to analyse her Teenage Dream album to see if I can adapt any ideas.

Again, there is a running theme through the Teenage Dream digipack of candy and sweets. Pastel pinks and blues are used to attract a female audience whereas the actual images may attract a male audience as she is nude and can be seen as desirable. The pastel colour scheme also ties in with the 50s theme that the digipack presents. Perry models a pin-up inspired hairstyle and pose.

I have been inspired by this digipack to create a fluent and consistent theme throughout to communicate to the audience what the album is about.

I have looked at the original digipack of Taylor Swift's Speak Now album and have looked at its format so that I avoid copying its theme. The album art is based on a fairytale theme. Below are examples of some of the digipack pages. We can see that there is swirly text and romantic colours to portray the fairytale theme. Most of the images do focus on Taylor Swift, the artist, who is dressed in long pretty dresses and make up.

I like that the digipack has a theme and that the images relate to the songs but I don't think that the album focuses enough on Taylor Swift's genre and country background.
